ST THOMAS MALANKARA ORTHODOX CHURCH

ST THOMAS MALANKARA ORTHODOX CHURCH

My father always referred to this church at Findlater Place as Findlater's Church but he was incorrect because Findlater's Church [Abbey Church] is at the corner of Parnell Square.

The church in my photographs is now the St. Thomas Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church. This worshipping community in Ireland had its existence from the early 21st century, however, was formally declared as a Parish in the year 2006 by H.G Dr. Thomas Mar Makarios. They are part of the Orthodox (Oriental) family and trace their roots to the Indian Christian community of St. Thomas’ tradition.

The building was originally the new Anglican St. Thomas Church designed by W. Hicks who was the winner of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland Gold Medal for Architecture 1932-34.
