According to bronze plaque the sculpture celebrates the "children of the new millennium."
Located in Nicholas Street across from Christchurch Cathedral there is small park which was dedicated to the yearning for Peace in Ireland and it was officially opened in 1988. Unfortunately the park is usually locked and does not appear to be well maintained. According to one local that I spoke to "They closed the gates there for years on the grounds of anti-social behaviour"
Outside the park there is a bronze sculpture of three children playing. Millennium Child, Created by John Behan, is in my opinion is less than attractive and I would not go out of my way to see it. It was unveiled on November 8, 2000 by Irish President Mary McAleese.
