ARE THESE SCULPTURE BY THE SAME PERSON
SCULPTURE IN CONTEXT 2013 [TWO SIMILAR SCULPTURES - EARTHED AND TIME OUT]
I have managed to recover files from some very old disks and am now repairing or restoring images from the Sculpture In Context 2013 Exhibition but it is not so easy to identify the sculpture or the sculptor as I had hoped.
I have included two similar sculptures and some sources describe one as Time Out by Ana Duncan and the other as being Earthed by Jackie McKenna but I cannot confirm that her work was ever featured in any Sculpture In Context festival. I conducted a reverse search and in most cases the photographs returned were mine. I undertook a more detailed search and the result is included below:
One of Two Sculptures in Dublin's National Botanic Gardens Confirmed as the Work of Artist Ana Duncan
Dublin, Ireland - An analysis of photographs showcasing two distinct sculptures located in the National Botanic Gardens has confirmed that one of the pieces, an abstract bronze figure, is the work of Irish sculptor Ana Duncan. The identity of the artist behind the second, a realistic depiction of a crouching man, remains unconfirmed.
The verified sculpture by Ana Duncan is a smooth, stylised representation of a seated figure, consistent with her artistic focus on the human form, often rendered in flowing, voluminous lines. Duncan has a well-established history of exhibiting her work at the National Botanic Gardens, frequently participating in the annual "Sculpture in Context" exhibition. This event showcases a diverse range of contemporary sculptures throughout the gardens, often on a temporary basis. The abstract piece in the photographs aligns stylistically with Duncan's known portfolio.
The second sculpture, a detailed and naturalistic bronze of a crouching male figure, could not be definitively identified through available resources. While it is possible this piece was also featured in a temporary exhibition like "Sculpture in Context," no clear record of its title or creator could be found. The transient nature of some installations within the gardens can make attribution challenging without specific exhibition records.
In conclusion, while the user's inquiry was whether both sculptures were created by Ana Duncan, only the abstract, seated figure can be confidently attributed to her. The artist of the realistic crouching man has not been identified.
