WOOD SCULPTURE AT MULLINGAR CATHEDRAL

THE SETTING FORTH SCULPTURE BY RICHIE CLARKE [ON THE GROUNDS OF THE CATHEDRAL RATHER THAN IN MULLINGAR TOWN PARK]

The "Setting Forth Sculpture" is a wood carving called The Norse and The Gael, created by Richie Clarke, and usually described as located in Mullingar Town Park. It depicts the Norse King Olaf and the Gaelic King Malachy in conflict, with the Celtic Goddess of War, the Morrigan, at the top, commemorating the history and legends of Mullingar and the surrounding area.

Confusion about the location is common because the sculpture is associated with the Town Park but is actually situated on the grounds of the cathedral next to it. Apparently it was commissioned for the park, its final placement is on the cathedral grounds, which is why I photographed it there.
