THE SRTIST AND HER ART
SOME LUCKY PERSON HAD THEIR GATE DECORATED BY JULIETTE VIODE [PHOTOGRAPHED 11 OCTOBER 2025]
This is not recent as I have photographed it a number of times but, until today, I had noticed that it was signed by Juliette Viode and that surprised as I can usually spot her work a mile away,
Juliette Viode is a French mural artist and illustrator based in Dublin, Ireland. Her work is renowned for its character-focused, bright, and cheerful style, often created in collaboration with communities to foster local pride.
Artistic Style and Themes
Viode's artistic style is heavily influenced by her background in animation and illustration, which she studied in Ireland. Her work is character-driven, vibrant, and tells stories inspired by comic books, animation, mythology, and games. She believes that colour is a powerful tool for conveying emotion, and her palette ranges from pastels to bold and bright hues. A recurring theme in her work is the empowerment of communities and the use of art as a tool for expression and communication, particularly for children.
Career Highlights
After graduating, Viode became deeply involved in Dublin's street art scene. She has been a self-employed artist for the past five years, painting murals both in Ireland and internationally.
Key projects and collaborations include: Lead Artist for the Dublin Canvas Project: Since early 2019, she has designed and painted numerous murals around Dublin city.
Community Work: Viode has a strong focus on working with disadvantaged communities and children with disabilities. She collaborates with schools to nurture the next generation of artists.
High-Profile Clients: Her clients include Dublin County Council, Kerry County Council, Trinity College Dublin, and Cartoon Saloon.
International Festivals: Her work has been featured in multiple international festivals, including Waterford Walls, Ireland's largest street art festival. In 2021, she participated in the festival's mentorship programme.
Media Recognition: Viode's work has been featured on RTÉ and in various national and international media outlets.
A notable recent work is a mural in Stoneybatter, Dublin, commissioned by Dublin City Council to celebrate the city's reopening after the pandemic. The piece is a reimagining of the iconic "We can do it!" poster from the Second World War, with a subtle nod to healthcare workers.
Illustration Work
Beyond street art, Viode continues her work as an illustrator through commissioned pieces and exhibitions. A significant project involves creating educational illustrations for a multi-million euro research project in collaboration with the AMBER research centre at Trinity College Dublin and universities in Germany, Spain, and France.
