12 MAY 2023
During my visit to Cork City I had a room at Gabriel House and on Friday (12 May) before checking out I decided to experiment with my Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max and photograph the immediate area.
If my memory serves me well I have stayed at the Gabriel Guesthouse almost every year since 2010 but I have stayed in the Metropole Hotel about three times but during two visits I could not sleep because of noise from the street (some of the noise was due to construction work on MacCurtain Street). I also stayed at a B&B near the railway station but it closed due to Covid restrictions and never reopened. I expect to stay at Gabriel House again in August.
With its elevated position, Gabriel House looks out over Cork’s cathedral spires and the harbour. A 5-minute walk from the centre, the house is surrounded by landscaped gardens, offering en suite rooms and free WiFi.
Most rooms at Gabriel House Guesthouse boast stunning views of the garden and countryside. Rooms all feature TVs. All guests have access to filtered water and fresh ice available from reception.
Dating from the early 1900s, Gabriel House features 10-feet-high ceilings, a characteristic staircase and many original features. Guests can relax in the garden and patio to the rear of the property.
Guests can pick out freshly laid eggs for breakfast each morning from the house’s own resident hens. A traditional Irish breakfast is served daily and made from local ingredients, while breads, biscuits scones are freshly home-baked every day.
