This caught me by surprise. When I photographed this building I thought that it was a pub named "98 Street" but when I examined the photographs I noticed a street sign which read as follows - "98 Street Late Hospital Lane" - this is not normal in Ireland.

After some investigation I learned that the row of houses was originally called Hospital Lane, but the name was changed in memory of the rebels who died in the Irish Rebellion of 1798, an uprising against British rule in Ireland. In 1898 the street was renamed 98 Street in memory of those who died.

To the best of my knowledge the pub has ceased trading and it should be mentioned a one-time first-floor snooker/pool room was converted to a 35-seat cinema about six years ago, complete with salvaged, original velvet cinema seating and curtained walls.
