Also for security reasons and problems withe hosting services some links no longer work. Currently the site is being reconstructed and it could be described as a Work In Progress as we try to remove all the issues and broken links.

QUEEN VICTORIA MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN

Victorian Fountain (restored) - Dun Laoghaire

The fountain itself is covered with a pierced dome supported by eight arches. Queen Victoria is detailed in profile on the monument, together with birds and other ornamentation.

The Victoria Fountain described by architectural historian Peter Pearson in his book 'Kingstown' as: "a beautiful monument, a defenseless symbol of the bygone age", was erected to commemorate Queen Victoria's visit to Dún Laoghaire in 1900.

The fountain was one of a large number celebrating Queen Victoria erected in Ireland and throughout other British colonies to a standardised design by Glasgow manufacturers Walter McFarland & Co. That company has since ceased trading but much of its business was inherited by another Scottish firm, Industrial Heritage, who were responsible for the structure’s repair and restoration.
