SIR JOHN ROGERSON'S QUAY

I COULD NOT FIND THE USS MESA VERDE

I visited Sir John Rogerson's Quay as I had expected to see the USS Mesa Verde docked here but unfortunately it was elsewhere and it was in a restricted location. However, I did meet a very nice lady from Ukraine who is currently living and working in Cork and she had decided go get at train and spend a day in Dublin.

I incorporated a mother fox and her cub as they have become so prevalent, especially Scar the beloved fox from Ringsend. I wanted to create a fun playful scene with the mother fox on her way to post a letter."

LEIXLIP MAIN STREET

HOME TO THE FARENDERS RATHER THAN THE HILLERS

Leixlip is a town in north-east County Kildare, Ireland. Its location on the confluence of the River Liffey and the Rye Water has marked it as a frontier town historically: on the border between the ancient kingdoms of Leinster and Brega, as an outpost of The Pale, and on Kildare's border with County Dublin. Leixlip was also a civil parish in the ancient barony of Salt North. As of 2016, the population of the town was 15,504. It is the fourth largest town in Kildare, and the 29th largest in Ireland.

BUS SHELTER 1725 AT DOYLE'S LANE

THE BEST THAT I HAVE SEEN IN DUBLIN

This is described as an island bus stop as a cycle track runs between the footpath and the bus stop waiting area and shelter creating, a pedestrian island at the bus stop that is segregated from the footpath. This design resolves the conflicts associated with in-line bus stops, that is, the conflicts between buses and cyclists on the roadway, and the conflicts between cyclists and pedestrians at the bus stop. However, island bus stops create a potential conflict area on the cycle track behind the bus waiting area, where pedestrians need to cross the cycle track when moving to or from the bus stop.

THE NINE ARCHES BRIDGE

MILLTOWN ANC CLONSKEAGH

Milltown is marked by a spectacular 19th-century railway bridge across the river, which was part of the Harcourt Street railway line which ran from Harcourt Street to Bray. On 30 June 2004, the bridge was re-opened for the Luas light rail system which runs from St. Stephen's Green to Bride's Glen. This bridge, and sometimes the area immediately surrounding it, became known informally as the 'Nine Arches'. Milltown railway station opened on 1 May 1860 and finally closed on 31 December 1958.

WE HAVE CHANGED THE LAYOUT

Because of our adoption of GDPR consent request and for other related issue we discovered that our sites had become slower so we are now experimenting with various layouts but, to be hones, the current layout has not resulted in any real improvements which is disappointing.

Going forward it is likely that we will switch to self hosted Headless WordPress which is very much faster but it introduces other complications that we will discuss at a later date.

THE TERENURE INN IS AN OLD DUBLIN PUB [PHOTOGRAPHED IN AUGUST 2022]

The Terenure Inn is a traditional Irish pub located in Terenure, Dublin. It has been in business for over 100 years, and is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. The pub is known for its friendly atmosphere, its wide selection of beers and spirits, and its excellent food. However, I have not had a meal there for three or four years.

THE MACNAS HALLOWEEN PARADE CAPEL STREET 30 OCTOBER 2016 [BRAM STOKER FESTIVAL IN DUBLIN]

This event was not at all easy to photograph so I decided to have a bit of fun with some of the images. Hopefully the images will give you all a feel for the event. I am working my way through a large number of images and will publish a few more over the next few days.

Macnas is a performance company based at the Fisheries Field in Galway, Ireland. Its public performances are noted for exuberance, colour and spectacle. The company has been influential in changing the nature of public entertainment in Ireland.

Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of All Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed.

It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain; that such festivals may have had pagan roots; and that Samhain itself was Christianised as Halloween by the early Church. Some believe, however, that Halloween began solely as a Christian holiday, separate from ancient festivals like Samhain.

NORTH OF THE RIVER

PHOTOGRAPHED BY WILLIAM MURPHY

The Northside of Dublin City is the part of the city that lies north of the River Liffey. It is an informal but commonly used term. While it is sometimes regarded as less wealthy than the city's Southside, the Northside was originally the home of the city's upper classes and the more privileged of the two. Today, some of the wealthiest areas in Ireland lie north of the river, such as Malahide, Howth, Clontarf, and Castleknock.
